Introduction
At a critical moment in my life, a strong Christian leader asked me, “Do you want others to follow you?”
Of course, my answer was in the affirmative. Then he said, “Become worth following.”
There is a process involved in becoming an effective leader, requiring training, experience, and maturing.
Nothing can replace the ongoing work of pruning and nourishing which only God can accomplish over the course
of many years.
Yet, occasionally our progress receives a boost by the help and input of others. Jesus said the pupil will
become as his teacher (Luke 6:40). For this reason, I spent several years of my life studying the lives of
great men and women of God in history. I also carefully watched those alive today who are influential in the
Body of Christ and who are accomplishing mighty works for our Lord. It soon became evident that certain ways
of thinking and attitudes were common to all successful leaders. The wise pupil will emulate those qualities.
Leadership, however, is not merely taught, but caught. For this reason, Moses laid his hands on Joshua actually
to impart his authority (Num. 27:18-20). Paul wrote of his desire to impart grace to those who followed him
(Rom. 1:11). It is through such a transmission of divine anointing that leaders arise.
I write so that you may obtain a quality of leadership, a spirit of holiness, a clearer standard, and a
greater measure of grace. To be a leader, you must think as a leader. To be a man or woman of God, you
must be God’s man or woman. I pray that grace will be transmitted through these pages into your spirit.
Catch what you need to catch and determine to become who God created you to be.
You may notice in the following pages that I predominantly use the male gender pronouns in order to
simplify communication. However, please understand that I believe in and recognize men and women in leadership roles. |
